Possible ideas of setting of the world
World
Common in all settings
Transhumanism is common place and for many is the only tool to have a chance of surviving in a society were people with the right skills can get something in life.
Beyond the veil of reality lies many different worlds, dimensions even another universe, sometimes they came in contact with our planet always leaving something behind and not without consequences, sometimes this can usher a new era of technological development other times only tragedy and death.
Option 1: Far Future (2132)
Transhumanism: With many advances in biology that allowed easily grow a organ in laboratory people have lost the attachment to their own body will readily augment their bodies to get a edge at work or to work as mercenaries, because replacing a limb became something trivial that anyone with enough money can do.
Set around 2132, this future is dominated by mega-corporations typical of a cyberpunk setting, governments are struggling to keep any kind of power and metropolis around the world became independent states once they became self-sufficient due to corporations providing tools for their growth, which in turn benefited them with more freedom.
Option 2: Near Future
A plausible projection of what the future could look like, with exception of the supernatural stuff. The story would be more grounded with reality something like Watch Dogs, or maybe Deus Ex because it's actually more plausible than it seems.
Government should still be strong enough but not nearly as much as it was in the past, corporation have a lot of say in everything, election are more like a fight between corporation to see who's puppet will get to power, and the most government can do is help undermine the enemies of their patrons.

Option 3: Alternative near present (1990~2020)
To keep it closer to the original concepts of cyberpunk, this period seems the most appropriated, the aesthetic could be similar with something that came out in the 90s, something like retrofuturism or cassette futurism.
Due to the contact with alternative dimensions a lot of tech was developed earlier than it should've been and society actually can't keep the pace with all the ethical dilemmas that many of these advances bring, and the grey zone between what is ethically acceptable and what isn't is a state of constant flux.
A lot of people go missing everyday without any explanation, most believe that they were taken some corporation to be used in experiments, others believe that there is more to this disappearance than just plain corporate greed.
Ideas that can be used in any setting
Common to cyberpunk
- Radical groups protesting against corporations due to their lack of ethics in experiments
Concept that could be worth exploring
- Privatized government - Contradictory by itself, but much like private police government itself could became a corporation, but how would that work, could be a concept worth to explore. Maybe instead of paying taxes citizens would pay a subscription, and there are several competing government inside a city. Weird but I like.
Cities
Artificial Island/Archipelago
Created by accident at a testing ground for nuclear bomb in the middle of the pacific ocean, the constant radiation bombardment help stabilize a bridge between our dimension and a world that was basically formed by liquid dirt, and after a few decades pouring in our ocean a island started to form, but that didn't go unnoticed and corporation with influence nearby went to investigate and discover the bridge and what was keeping it stable, then the corporation made a treat that once the radiation was clear they would use location to conduct experiments with bridges to another dimensions.
But that took a long time to happen and the island was starting to get too big to keep it from the public, as a cover up they came up with the creating a artificial island to make the city of the future.
City in the Outback
In the middle of the Australian outback this city started as a group of research facility, but then the families of the researcher moved nearby and started a village, but due to high demand of personnel and huge amount the money generated by these research the village started to grow since it was seem a place extremely profitable to make a new business.
Despite the high affluence this place is not immune to the danger of nature, which seems specially dangerous even by Australian standards.
Dome city
Experimental city created in the middle of the desert to prove the efficiency of Localized Terraforming, this dome is completely self-sufficient, and if it contact with external world was cut it could survive for centuries with proper maintenance.
The dome can capture solar energy using transparent panels, with a surplus of energy coming for a swarm of satellites that capture and transmit the energy directly to the dome, generating enough energy for the city and then some.
Inside the dome has a programmable weather grid, that simulates rain and a few other weather condition when need or to make replicate better the weather in the outside, the inhabitant have a precise schedule of weather so they never are caught unprepared.
Fictitious City in US
Traditional city in US because is more relatable, but properly place in the story timeline, could be a independent city but not really a requirement.
I would like to explore the idea of geothermal energy in this one, could also explore creature dwelling in the magma, but just this doesn't make the city compelling enough.
Mars Colony
Multi-cultural city founded in a joint operation of several government and corporations, land is divided by how much each
